The Mix: A summer series (week one)

Today I would like to introduce a blog post that will be occurring every other Monday. In this series, I will post hairstyles or fashion that is hot that week, a current celebrity debate, binge worthy series on Netflix, and a playlist of the week. As you see this series will contain quite a bit of content, hence the title(the mix.) Well lets get started :

What's hot for the ladies this summer? This week let's look at some cool protective styles that all you should definitely explore:

It's really hot outside. Like extremely hot, and although I enjoy the versatility of wigs, protective styles are unmatched! Sometime you just want to be able to feel your scalp, and channel you inner Janet with the poetic flow of braids. But protective styles aren't just braids. A protective style is any hairstyle that requires slight to no maintenance. It is supposed to encourage hair growth and healthiness. So just because you get some fire braids, doesn't mean it's protective. If homegirl braided your hair too type and your edges gone.. it's not that protective.

I plan on trying ALL of these hairstyles this summer if my pocket can take it. I love faux locs as you can see above, but I have only tried them once. I absolutely adore the slick pony tail trend, which seems to never go out of style. Contrary to popular belief, this style doesn't require a professional. All you have to do is get the proper molding (eco style gel, pro-style, whatever is best for your hair) and buy kankelon from you local beauty store. And I really am feeling the lemonade braids, and the braids with the designs starting in the center of the head. I'm sure we all have our insecurities concerning the structures of our face and what not. I was always very self conscious of wearing braids because my head is big and my forehead is a five head. But this summer it's all about confidence ladies. Embrace it, and others will too!

This week's playlist https://itunes.apple.com/us/playlist/ravens-playlist-of-the-week-1/pl.u-ZmblVJps0vVpKlz

For those of you who have have Apple Music and are playlist junkies like me, this is for you.

Now this week's playlist is a mix of Hip-hop and R&B. Most of the songs are fairly new. As the weeks progress, I will broaden the scale of music being featured (I listen to various types of music.) This playlist features: Tee Grizzley, Ty Dolla $ign, Ella Mai, Rae Sremmurd &Swae Lee, and more. Hope this brings you good vibes. :)

Binge Worthy Obsessions:

Its summer time and most of us are either working, bored, or both. Every summer I binge at LEAST 5 shows, so here are some of my recommendations to get your summer list started:

1) Chewing Gum: Now this is for people who have a weird or dry since of humor like myself. This show is REALLY off the wall. This show is set in London, as you will quickly notice due to the accents. The main character is 25 year old name Tracey (Michaela Coel). She lives with her over the top religious mother, and good two shoes sister. Tracey is the odd one out of the family, but adheres to her mother's antics. She is very curious, yet she is a virgin and has been with her fiancé for years. Her fiancé is far from average as well, which you will be able to tell from at least episode one. She soon drops him and start to explore all of her freedom. Tracey is VERY different and gets into a lot of weird predicaments throughout the show. So again, watch this show with an open mind.

2) A Series of Unfortunate Events: I always tell people this show is better watched if you read this book series as a kid. I loved these books, and the episodes are almost similar to what the author wrote. Basically, three children are become orphans when their parents die in a traumatic fire. The orphans: Clause, Sunny, and Violet, are left to fend for themselves. Their parents were very rich and their fortune will turn over to them once Violet, the oldest child, becomes of age. Their "social worker", Mr. Poe, is about as dumb as a sack of rocks. Yet, he is in charge of their safety and wellbeing. Throughout the series you will see them bounce from guardian to guardian. But there is an evil man, Count Olaf, who is desperately after their fortune and will do ANYTHING to get it. The only thing that might be in their favor is the secret society their parents belonged to...

3) Riverdale: This is a very TWISTED show. The characters all take the names of those from the Archie comics. I really don't want to say too much because this show is very juicy. Just know that as soon as episode one starts, everything jumps off. In Riverdale, someone has recently been found murdered and everyone is a suspect. His sister, mother, friends, and maybe his girlfriend. But through the killing of the young man, many sick secrets are uncovered through the town. Incest, adultery, scams, and much more are hidden through the smiles of the citizens throughout this town. This show is so good, you probably will never take a break.

3) Grey’s Anatomy: I know everyone probably watches this already or knows of it, but I just have to endorse it! Grey's Anatomy will make you want to be a doctor just so you can have the bond they have on this show. The show is centered on Meredith Grey. She comes from a troubled and dysfunctional past, and has to live in the shadows of her extremely talented Mother. Throughout the many seasons of this show, you see her hurt, almost die, find the love of her life, and truly evolve as a person. The subplots are very good too. There will be so many characters on this show you will fall in love with, but might get snatched away (thanks to Shonda). This is literally the equivalent to a soap opera. The drama never ends in this series.

4) Dark: This is a German based show but is in English and has occasional subtitles. I'd classify this series under science fiction/thriller. You have to pay VERY close attention to this show because it is mind blowing. This show begins when children in the town go missing. It is currently the year 2019... Or so we think? One day when some of the kids are exploring and messing around... a time portal is found. Again this show is a lot to take in so I do not want to give up so much. Just know that the potential children who are actually missing could unknowingly living 1986. And everyone's parents aren't actually their parents... they could be there siblings. :( There is an evil man (who masquerades as a pastor) who is behind all of this time travel and darkness.

Although I love positivity, I have to end with a drag. This week drag is shared by Cardi B and Azealia Banks.

Now I have read different articles about the feud between Cardi and Azealia. And although Azealia had some low blows, she is only doing what she is known for. Being a TROLL. One thing I don't think people understand about trolls is that they thrive off of dialogue. So if you want a troll to shut up, DO NOT respond to them. This does not excuse Azealia's ugly, rude, hatred, and out of line ways or remarks. But this woman is known more for her remarks than her music. So obviously, this is her job description.

Now, to sum up the beef, Azealia called Cardi, “illiterate, untalented rat, caricature of a black woman”, and said she lowered the bar for female rappers. Now she was asked about remarks on the Breakfast Club, and like the troll she is, she did not deny them. Now after this she and Cardi went back and forth on social media. Cardi at one point made a huge post claiming that she reread her post and proofread it before posting, then proceeded to "drag" Azealia. Now let’s stop right here. As much as I love Cardi and support her come up, she is a liar. She could not have reread and reviewed the content of her post because there were at least 10 grammatical and spelling errors. Like I literally cringed reading it. So at the moment I named her loud and wrong. Azealia was loud, but not wrong. And what gave Azealia the upper hand in this argument was simply her articulation. Now I know everyone says they know what Cardi B be saying or you know her bilingual, whatever excuse you want to give her! Cardi needs to hire someone to manage her account, because this is becoming embarrassing. There was a spelling error on her album cover. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???

And again, I am not saying it was okay for Azealia to say Cardi had cold sores on her mouth and all of the other insults she hurled at her. But there was some truth in what she said. Cardi does need to step it up in that aspect. She is definitely well in the industry now. Time to boss it up in the level. And speaking of bossing up. Cardi, why would you delete you Instagram. She could've just blocked her. You know how mad you have to let someone make you to delete your Instagram. Never. Cardi needs to start living by her lyrics and stop being bothered by people. Then she pregnant. People are saying that everyone is being so ignorant and not considering she is pregnant. Can she consider she is pregnant?? I saw a twitter video of her arguing with a fan from inside the hotel. Cardi really? Put your big girl panties on and deal with the reality of being a star. With all the success that you have, you have to know hate is going to come with that. We don't like Kylie Jenner and so many unpopular opinions of her family. But when my girl got pregnant, she dipped off the face of the Earth. Nobody has time for all of that drama while being responsible for their mental health and another human. Everyone protects Cardi and upholds her in everything, but can y'all let sis handle her own?
